10-positives-of-moving-house

Right now we’re moving, not the nicest thing to do but we have found there are benefits amongst the many negatives; here are 10 positives of moving house + 1 for good luck:

Get a fresh start

What better way to get a fresh start than to move out and start afresh somewhere else, a new house, suburb, town, state or even country! Moving house is so refreshing.

New scenery

Don’t you sometimes just get so sick of the same monotonous sights? Going for a walk, driving to work, your surrounding landscape, sometimes you just need some pizzazz added, someplace a little more exciting that makes you smile when you go by. Moving house can give you these things. Maybe you’d like to live by the water, in the mountains, out bush or simply just a different part of town? Happy surroundings make for happier people!

Get something you’ve always wanted by moving house

Sure, many of us would live in different surroundings if there were no limits, but think of things that you can find if you look around, in reality there are small changes that make us feel more at home. I for one would love a bathtub in our next place, we’ve gone without one for years now, a backyard is a must too. You might like the idea of a double storey with a beautiful staircase or perhaps a breezy patio, why not see if you can get something you’ve always wanted just by moving house?

Don’t have to see annoying neighbors anymore

Ever had one (or more) of those damn awful neighbours that you have to hide of you see them because the thought of dealing with them is too much? Or the ones that make so much noise it’s just unbearable? Don’t get me wrong we’ve had the loveliest neighbours too! Sometimes you just don’t want to see their faces ever again!

Find things that were lost

That dreaded packing… Yes, it does suck but there is a bright side to moving house, finding everything you’d lost or that you’d completely forgotten about.

De clutter, get rid of things you don’t need

As much as there’s a tiny little hoarder in most of us it is cleansing to de clutter and get rid of things you don’t need. Heck, even burn that crap! It’s fun!!

Today I was looking at this beautiful dress that I can’t bear to part with and I was showing Sam, he gave me the answer I need “it’s beautiful but you haven’t worn it in 5 years” it’s true, will I even wear it in the next 5? I like to think so but the reality is I don’t know…. the jury is still out on the dress at this point even though I know what I really ought to do.

I better add that we are moving from Finland to Australia, so quantity and weight of luggage is really important (this dress in question is heavyish). If we weren’t going so far we would take a little more things than we are, unfortunately this is just one of the negatives of moving between countries.

Can give things to others

It is a nice feeling to give to others, a really nice feeling actually. Amongst all our junk we’ve been able to find things to go to new homes, it sure beats the rubbish bins and it’s nice to give.

Discovering new cleaning hacks

Most of us know what cleaning products to use and where to use them… Today I hit a fork in the road! Nothing would get pen off our white dishwasher and fridge, yes the kids have been known to be little artists from time to time! I tried everything and nothing worked, the best I could do was fade it ever so slightly. Not good enough! I got to the point that I was going to try everything I could possibly think of until something would work, as there would have to be something right? I couldn’t find any help from Google either surprisingly!

Enter Colgate toothpaste, I use it sometimes for cleaning the whites on shoes so I thought I’ll give it a go and I hit the jackpot! You beauty…. Not only does it get the ink off quickly (and most other things that are not meant to be there) it makes it look straight out of the showroom, it didn’t even look this good when we moved in. I also discovered it shines chrome amazingly and helps with tough wallpaper stains too, bonus!

Cutting down on waste

How easy it is to buy something new when you haven’t finished the old yet, take food or shower products for example. Usually by now we would have somewhere between 3 and 5 different shower gels in use with perhaps a couple in the cupboard. I’d just use them not thinking about quantity and when they get empty enough to be annoying they’d get thrown out in favour of another, same with toothpaste etc.

Now we’re trying to savour every little bit, to last us right up until the last use in our house, so we don’t have to buy new and don’t have to waste any. This is something that will have to continue, by using as much as we need and not extra and by using the last drops, over time it will save us money.

The joy of finishing the job

That last suitcase, last box packed, last wall scrubbed.

Oh and the last time you shut that door behind you, you almost want to shout “yay” from the rooftops. Now onto the fun stuff..

Getting the key to your new place

Getting your new key is awesome, unpacking maybe not so awesome but once you’ve got your key and your couch you can relax, plenty of time for all that unpacking later.

You’ve earnt your rest!

❄️ Have you moved house recently, or are in the process of moving? We would love to hear how you went and any positives you’ve found. Don’t be shy!
