Fancy a holiday on the farm? In beautiful Switzerland…..We’ll tell you why you should!

Switzerland is beautiful and a must see destination, and their old farms rock... Need I say more 😊.Click To Tweet

With its breathtaking scenery, mountains, lakes, old towns…(I could go on forever,) Switzerland is just a must see destination and really should be on everyone’s bucket list! But why do we recommend you stay at holiday on the farm?

The Holiday on the farm hosts are so lovely

A sweeter couple you never did meet!

Germaine and Roland have transformed their roughly 100 yr old farmhouse into Holiday on the farm. They’ve put their all into making their home your home away from home and they are some of the kindest people we have ever met.

Sleep on the hay at Holiday on the farm

Why not opt for something slightly different during your stay at holiday on the farm and sleep on the hay, why not? Reside in the barn If you feel adventurous, sleep on the hay, where the cows and pigs used to spend their winters.

Germaine and Roland have transformed the barn into a cozy, comfortable perhaps one could say farmyard dorm room?? Lots of hay makes for a comfortable mattress and the warm sleeping bags will keep you snug as a bug.

Bed and breakfast accommodation at Holiday on the farm

At holiday on the farm you’ll find a selection of rooms for if you prefer a bed and breakfast type of accommodation (I guess hay is not everyone’s cup of tea) ranging in size from single to family, all have a homely old world charm about them that will make you feel as though you’re stepping back in time.

Large groups, no problem for Holiday on the farm

Holiday on the farm can accommodate large groups of up to 30 people in the barn on the hay.
For another, different dorm like experience sleep in the attic, it accommodates up to 30 guests and has great views of the countryside.

Holiday on the farm is located in French-speaking canton Fribourg

Cormérod, in the French-speaking canton of Fribourg is where you’ll find holiday on the farm, 10km away from the beautiful city of Fribourg.

No transport, no worries

If you don’t have a car or transport don’t worry as the bus stop is only 100m away to transport you wherever you’d like to go.

Breakfast is included

Included in the price of your stay at holiday on the farm is breakfast, freshly cooked every morning.

Buy fresh farm produce

You’ll find a lovely selection of produce to buy that is made by Germaine and Roland, our favorites are the schnapps and jam, with many flavors to choose from.

Holiday on the farm prices

Prices are 40 Fr per person per night, children are half price and small children are free. Feel like staying a while? Speak to Germaine and Roland, they are happy to do special prices for longer stays.

Newly renovated bathrooms and laundry at Holiday on the farm

The farmhouse has a nostalgic old world charm about it but inside the house Germaine and Roland have newly renovated the bathrooms and laundry to help make your stay a more pleasant one.

Is Switzerland expensive?

Switzerland has a reputation as being expensive. We are honestly baffled by this, coming from living between Finland and Australia we can honestly say we were pleasantly surprised by the prices (in a good way) with the exception of hotels. We live in Finland at the moment and we can truthfully say that it is more expensive here in Finland than Switzerland.

However we did find accommodation expensive! That is another reason why Holiday on the farm is the place to stay, spend your money on experiences, not sleeping! I’m not sure you’ll be able to beat the cost of holiday on the farm, and especially given that if you are staying a while Germaine and Roland will give you a special price.

Driving around Switzerland seeing the sights

Now distance wise, coming from Australia long drives are in the blood, they’re welcomed! So driving around Switzerland is a breeze. It’s such a good country to drive around! The roads are amazing and awe-inspiring, don’t forget the Alps 😊

If you’re planning a holiday to Switzerland you’re probably planning on staying in different places… you shouldn’t because

  1. The cost of accommodation is expensive (as we mentioned before) and
  2. Driving between destinations isn’t so long

Now it does depend somewhat on what places you would like to visit and the amount of time you would like there and whether or not you like driving but… If you would just like to look around and have fun… Stay at holiday on the farm, the drive back is worth the view (as all of Switzerland is beautiful) and the savings are worth the drive.

Germaine and Roland’s cat

The animals that once resided on the old farm are long gone, however rejoice all cat lovers, there is the family cat!

J'ai appris l'Allemand en travaillant deux été dans une ferme biologique, dans la région de Bâle (Basel). Des souvenirs inoubliables...

Ça aurait été adorable, été, travail à la ferme, nouveaux amis et expériences.
